Plastic surgery encompasses both cosmetic (aesthetic) and reconstructive surgery.

Our physicians perform a broad variety of these procedures. We are both cosmetic and reconstructive surgeons.

Generally, cosmetic surgery is performed to reshape normal structures of the body in order to improve the patient's appearance and self-esteem. Cosmetic surgery is not covered by health insurance; it is an entirely elective procedure. As with any other service product in the business world, payment is expected at the time of service.

Reconstructive surgery is different. This is performed on patients who have suffered from congenital defects, trauma, infection, tumors or disease. In our practice, this includes treating patient in the Emergency Room and Trauma center. Primarily, reconstruction is done to improve function, but may also be done to approximate a normal appearance. Since reconstructive surgery is done for a disease or injury, it is generally covered by most health insurance policies. Coverage for specific procedures and levels of coverage may vary greatly.
